Collection Information:
Endocervical Swab Specimen: using the cobas® PCR Female Swab Sample Packet containing PCR transport medium and swabs:
1. Remove one swab from the packaging.
2. Using the swab, remove excess mucus from the cervical os. Discard the used swab.
3. Remove second swab from the packaging.
4. Insert the second swab into the cervical canal and rotate for 15-30 seconds.
5. Withdraw the swab carefully. Avoid contact with the vaginal mucosa.
6. Immediately place the swab into the transport medium. Break the shaft of the swab, leaving the remaining swab in the transport medium. Make sure the cap is tightly secured to the tube.
Male Urethral Specimen (Note: Urine is the preferred sample for males): See Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia Trachomatis, Urine, by PCR or using the cobas® PCR Female Swab Sample Packet containing PCR transport medium and swabs:
1. Insert the collection swab 2-4 cm into the urethra and rotate for 3-5 seconds.
2. Withdraw the swab. Immediately place the swab into the transport medium. Break the shaft of the swab, leaving the remaining swab in the transport medium. Make sure the cap is tightly secured to the tube. Discard second swab.
Transport Information:
Cobas PCR media, VTM, Aptima swabs, and ESwabs can all be transported ambient or refrigerated.

Specimens NOT collected and placed in Universal viral transport medium, Aptima media, cobas® PCR media or ESwab. Wooden swabs are not acceptable.
