Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia trachomatis by PCR, Urine
Alias: 
This assay should not be used to assess therapeutic success or failure for persons treated with the CDC recommended or alternative regimens, since nucleic acids from these organisms may persist for 3 weeks or more following antimicrobial therapy. If a test-of-cure is requested, a Chlamydia culture (EPIC LAB 2166), should be requested. This test is appropriate for retesting at three months or longer post antimicrobial therapy.

Collection Information: 
1. The patient should not have urinated for at least 1 hr prior to specimen collection.
2. Collect specimen in a sterile, plastic, preservative-free collection cup and transfer to cobas® PCR Media Urine Collection Kit. Sterile urine container also acceptable if cobas® PCR Media Urine Collection Kit not available.
3. The patient should collect the first 15-20 ml of voided urine (NOT midstream).

Transport Information: 
Transport urine specimens in urine cups at 18-30 degrees C within 24 hours. If transport is delayed, refrigerate until time of transport or stabilize in cobas® PCR Media.

Minimum Sample Volume: 
5.0 mL of urine

Remarks: 
Gross presence of blood may interfere with test performance. Female urine may contain PCR inhibitors and is therefore not recommended for this test.

Unacceptable Conditions: 
Urine specimen volume less than 5.0 mL. Specimens outside of stability requirements.
