Laboratory Chemistry Standardization - Effective June 16, 2026

The Laboratories at UnityPoint Health have been working on standardizing chemistry instrumentation and laboratory testing orders where possible. Regional Laboratory Chemistry experts across the UnityPoint Health system participated in a comprehensive review of the Chemistry laboratory orders including reference ranges and units of measure with their recommendations approved by the Laboratory Clinical Service Group.

Many of the changes are being made behind the scenes in the Sunquest and Epic systems. This includes making front-facing changes to lab test orders and results in Epic. The transition will impact ordering workflows including modifications to preference lists, order sets and ambulatory pathways.

Overview of Changes:
  • Laboratory Information System and Testing Catalog Updates
  • Focused Tests & Order changes including orders that will be removed and replaced with the standard and new test  options may be available. These changes may require: User Preference List updates and Order set updates for epic users
  • Units of Measure & Reference Range Changes – IMPORTANT: Please note these changes are important when interpreting results
