Preferred Collection Container: 
Lavender (EDTA)

Collection Information: 
Collect 4-5 mL whole blood in EDTA

Transport Information: 
Centrifuge and transfer 2.0 mL of EDTA plasma into a sterile transport vial. 

Minimum Sample Volume: 
0.5 mL of plasma (approximately 1.0 mL of blood based upon a normal patient's hematocrit)

Remarks: 
If a specimen is collected Friday (or prior to a holiday) and the last batch has already been sent out, it should be frozen immediately and stored as such over the weekend or holiday. These specimens must be noted as frozen on the requisitions.
Specimens that are frozen prior to send-out should remain frozen for transport, and therefore will need to be shipped with dry ice. These specimens must be noted as frozen on the requisitions.
