Collection Information:

Collect blood in a Light Green (Lithium Heparin Plasma Separator Tube) or SST (Serum separator). Green No Gel (Lithium Heparin) or Red (No Additive) also acceptable.

Transport Information:

Centrifuge within two (2) hours of collection and aliquot 0.5 mL of serum or plasma into a plastic transport vial. Send refrigerated.

Minimum Sample Volume: Minimum amount of analytical sample (serum, plasma, urine, CSF, etc.) required to perform an assay once. Submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory or reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum specimen volume may result in a QNS (Quantity Not Sufficient) result, requiring a second specimen to be collected.

Unacceptable Conditions:

Capillary blood collections are for use in this assay. Cystatin C concentrations were significantly lower in capillary samples compared to venous blood samples.
