HIV-1 Ultra Sensitive RNA Quantitation by PCR
Container/Tube Type:
Lavender (EDTA)

Collection Information:
Collect blood in a lavender (EDTA) tube.

Transport Information:
Centrifuge and transfer 1.4 mL plasma to a plastic transport tube. Send refrigerated.

Minimum Sample Volume:
1.0 mL of plasma (approximately 2.0 mL of whole blood based upon a normal patient hematocrit)

Remarks:
Remove plasma from cells within 24 hours and transfer to a polypropylene tube at 2-8°C for transport.

Unacceptable Conditions:
Serum and heparinized samples. ACD plasma will yield 15% lower test results than EDTA plasma.

Stability Comments:
Freeze thaw studies show specimen may be frozen and thawed up to 4 times without loss of HIV-1 RNA.
