Collect blood in a Green No Gel (Lithium Heparin) or Lavender (EDTA).

Transport Information:

Centrifuge and aliquot 3.0 mL of plasma into plastic transport vial. Send refrigerated

Minimum Sample Volume: Minimum amount of analytical sample (serum, plasma, urine, CSF, etc.) required to perform an assay once. Submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory or reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum specimen volume may result in a QNS (Quantity Not Sufficient) result, requiring a second specimen to be collected.

0.6 mL of plasma (approximately 1.2 mL of whole blood based upon a normal patient hematocrit)

Remarks:

Drawing blood specimens for plasma hemoglobin measurement should be done with considerable care to avoid causing hemolysis.

Unacceptable Conditions:

Whole blood samples received more than 2 hours after specimen collection.Serum samples. Gel tubes.
