Plasma from Lavender tubes is acceptable but will not route in the Laboratory Information System (Sunquest).

Collection Information: 
Collect blood in a SST (Serum Separator) or Red (No Additive). Light Green (Lithium Heparin Plasma Separator Tube), Green No Gel (Lithium Heparin), or Lavender (EDTA) are also acceptable, HOWEVER, if add on testing is requested for Folate, these tubes will not be acceptable for that testing as serum is required.

Transport Information: 
Centrifuge and aliquot 1.3 mL of serum or plasma into a plastic transport vial. Send refrigerated.

Minimum Sample Volume: 
0.4 mL of serum or plasma (approximately 0.8 mL of whole blood based upon a normal patient hematocrit)

Remarks: 
Fasting-overnight (12 hour) is the specimen of choice.
