Interpretive Data: 
If equivocal or reactive, this test will automatically reflex to the RPR confirmation (RPRCNF) assay.
If the RPR Confirmation is reactive, it will be titered.
If the RPR Confirmation is nonreactive, an order for the Syphilis Antibody, Treponema pallidum Particle Agglutination, Serum (TPPA) will be ordered reflexively.
Testing results are reported to Iowa Health and Human Services (formerly Iowa Department of Health)

Preferred Collection Container: 
SST (Serum Separator)
Light Green (Lithium Heparin Plasma Separator Tube)

Also Acceptable Collection Container: 
Red (No Additive)
Green No Gel (Lithium Heparin)
EDTA plasma specimens are acceptable but will not route in Sunquest.

Collection Information: 
Collect in a SST (Serum Separator) or Light Green (Lithium Heparin Plasma Separator Tube). Red (No Additive), Green No Gel (Lithium Heparin), and Lavender (EDTA) also acceptable.

Transport Information: 
Centrifuge and aliquot 0.5 mL of serum or plasma into a plastic transport vial. Send refrigerated.

Minimum Sample Volume: 
0.25 mL of serum (approximately 0.5 mL of blood based upon a normal patient's hematocrit)

Unacceptable Conditions: 
Grossly hemolyzed or lipemic specimens.
